  30.     Abstract:
  31.       This coverage includes arcs, polygons and polygon labels that
  32.       describe U.S. Geological Survey defined geologic provinces
  33.       of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Kampuchea, Laos, Malaysia,
  34.       Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam;
  35.       and parts of Australia, China and Taiwan).  Each province has a
  36.       set of geologic characteristics distinguishing it from
  37.       surrounding provinces.  These characteristics may include the
  38.       dominant lithologies, the age of the strata, and the structural
  39.       style.  Some provinces include multiple genetically-related
  40.       basins.  Offshore province boundaries are defined by the 2000
  41.       meter bathymetric contour.
  42.     Purpose:
  43.       To delineate geologic province boundaries in Open File Report
  44.       97-470F Maps Showing Geology, Geologic Provinces,
  45.       and Oil and Gas Fields of Southeast Asia, which is being
  46.       compiled as a small scale geologic reference for the U.S.
  47.       Geological Survey's World Energy Project assessment of
  48.       undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources
  49.       of the world.  This coverage is used to produce a map and an
  50.       Adobe Acrobat Portable Document of the map, to be published
  51.       on CD-ROM. An Arcview shapefile derived from this coverage
  52.       is used in an Arcview project and an ArcExplorer project.
